Day 8 of 30: From "Doer" to "Receiver"

Day 8 of 30:

From “Doer” to “Receiver”
~A “Doer” in the process of being a “receiver” and being ok with that.
I don’t know about you but I know that I am a “doer”.  I’m always looking for what I feel I should “do”. Of course I always want my “doing” to be directly in line with God’s Will.

  • What happens when you are searching for his will and not “doing” anything else?
  • What does He want me to “do” right now?
  • Does He truly care about whether or not I clean the bathroom today????

Proverbs 2: 1-6~
“My son, if you accept my words and store up my commands within you, turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding- indeed, if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding, and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God. For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth comes knowledge and understanding.”

In the study guide of Lysa Terkeurst’s, “The Best Yes”, we’re actually exploring this very idea. She is so generous as to break this down into a bullet point format which I love. This is our “doer” list.
The following is what is in her study guide, “The Best Yes”:

  • *   Accept my words. Get into God’s Word.
  • *   Store up my commands. Let God’s Word get into you.
  • *   Turn your ear to wisdom. Listen to wise instruction from God and wise people.
  • *   Apply your heart to understanding. Apply wise instruction to your current situation.
  • *   Call out for insight. Ask God for insights you wouldn’t think of on your own.
  • *   Cry Aloud.  Pray out loud over situations where you need wisdom.
  • *   Look for it. Actively look for God’s revelations. Look for the hand of God in everything.
  • *   Search for it as hidden treasure. Treat wisdom as one of the greatest treasures you could acquire.

“We have to choose to follow the Lord, not just with our salvation decision but also with our daily decisions.” ~Lysa TerKeurst

Are you a “doer”?
Do you love this list as much as I?

Do you also see the “patience” part of the “doing”?
Is this "do" list and "patience" the answer to being able to receive?

Day 7 of 30- Getting Started- Morning Routine

Day 7 of 30- Getting Started- Morning Routine

I'm tired. No really... I am...

I'm tired of living in reaction to life as opposed to proactive!

I must establish my very rough morning routine. I am extremely easily distracted and can easily find myself at 12 unshowered, unexercised, and unfed.  I don't like that feeling.

SO here is my morning routine for this next week (subject to tweaking by myself of course):

  • 0600- I'm awake!!! No snooze, no laying around... GET UP!
  • 0601- I maketh thy bed (otherwise I won't)
  • 0610- Wow, 9 minutes to make my bed... perhaps I should actually time myself to ensure proper scheduling. Oh and now we're brushing our teeth and such to prepare for some hardcore walking. ;-)
  • 0615- Medicine and CAFFEINE!!!
  • 0630- Sitting at breakfast table watching family run around and constantly reminding the children what they need to do next. If they end up both in the same room with me we get to do a little devotion.  Perhaps I should schedule that at 0630.
  • 0645- Still more running around.
  • 0700- Say later to all my peeps big and small. Wow... it's quiet. Speaking of quiet I would love to have some quiet time with my God.  I would go ahead and walk but reveille starts at 0730 and I highly dislike stopping my walk to stand still.
  • 0733- Reveille over- Grab my sneakers, get the leashes and choose what I'm going to listen to while walking.
  • 0830- Home from walking. Gosh I feel good and I stink. SHOWER!

Alrighty... that's all I got for now.

I'd like to start a load of laundry sometime in there but I don't want it going in the wash when I'm not here and I don't want it to be finished drying while I'm not here.  I dislike wrinkly clothes especially after I put forth so much effort to get them clean and dry!

Oh yeah... I was looking on the internet for a good tender pork loin recipe....

Day 6 of 30- Progress not Perfection!

Day 6 of 30- Progress not Perfection!

This started out as a write every day challenge on the 1st of October.  As you can see I'm on day 6 of 30 and it's the 18th of October. Guess what happened????!!!??  I don't know either!

Going completely against my nature, I'm changing it to 30 days of writing... with no pressure of a deadline.  Progress not Perfection!

Day 5 of 30: I Need Helpers

Day 5 of 30: I Need Helpers!

Not sure how people do it- life that is.

I have this difficulty with time management, house management and me management which is pretty much life.

My kiddos are in the double digits and we haven't really ever established a "chore" system that works for us (mostly me and the youngest).

We need something that is visual and helps the kids earn extra money or maybe not.

Please post your time management, house management and your me management- Life management comments.

  • What works for you?
  • How do you schedule your time?
  • How on earth do you go from morning to night?
  • How does the housework get done?

Am I the only one overwhelmed by all this????

Maybe we can change the world!

One of my favy quotes.
FLOWERS in the desert!!!

Day 4 of 30: Life happens

Day 4 of 30: Life Happens...

Sent this one to a friend who truly enjoyed it.
My buddy and me.

Shocked right?  Life happens?  Really?

Well it does. Last weekend I thought it would be a "good" idea to spend the evening at the ER. We didn't get home till 2 am but I'm so thankful for the nurses and doctors!  I wish I could do the job they do just because I see first hand how their humanity affects a patient.

All is well, just a little bit of pain, thank you ovarian cyst for rupturing.  Now we begin more appointments and potential for me to no-show and have to pay $$. LOL

Even though children can make you lose your mind, how could you resist??

Day 3 of 30: Unappreciated much?

Day 3 of 31

Unappreciated much?

I'm a mom of two kiddos,
a wife of one husband,
and a mom of two dogs
and a hamster.

Do I really have to say more???

One of our dogs is an all American mutt.  She 100% of the time wants to be outside all the time, loves to run and needs her daily dirt bath.  Problem is... she's an indoor dog and mama is obsessive about the never ending dog hair that comes off of her!!!

No longer is she allowed outside without supervision.  You give her one second and she's dirt bathing.

She received her weekly double bath today.  She's a mess but golly I love her.

I'll have to post a video of what she does every time she is finished with her bath.  It's quite funny.

Day 2 of 30: Moving problems

Have you ever moved?

My fellow military peeps understand this moving thing so well.

The Team just moved from Missouri to California in August.  It took us 4 days to drive and countless other days to pack, clean, unpack... We were homeless for a good 2 weeks.

A couple moving problems I've encountered just today.

Kinda Funny: This poor girl is terrified of balloons, guns and thunder.  I laugh every time there is a sonic boom, nearly every day, because she acts as though she may very well die. Poor girl.

Kinda not so funny, $50 no show bill for an appointment that I was supposed to be at in Kansas City during the time I was driving through the mountains.  This appointment was made 6 months before and well, I frankly forgot.
Being a grown up stinks.

Day 1 of 30- What's Lurking around the desert?

I grew up in Nebraska, lived quite awhile in Missouri and even enjoyed Okinawa, Japan. Surprisingly all three places are extremely different but all have many similarities. They all have lots of grass, greenery, trees and really nice people.  They are full of nature and critters.

I love the outdoors!!!  Love grass, love plants, love gardens especially my garden, and I love trees!!!  You can ask the Team, when Fall comes in the Midwest you'll hear me saying, "Look at that tree!", "Oh wow! That tree is so pretty!", and "Look at that one!". I'd like to think that they super appreciate all of my attention directing but I often hear, "Oh Mom!" and "Please stop with the trees."  I don't do it to drive them crazy, though that is an added benefit, there is something that overtakes me and I cannot hold back.
This last August, right when my garden was getting ready to start being picked, we moved.  Yep.  And where did Uncle Sam send us??? The middle of the desert in California.  WHAT!?!?!?!?!?  As a military wife I am always focusing on the positive.  I am trying but when it comes to nature.... welll..... it's a desert out there!!

There is grass and trees on base in some locations but not much and they are not native.

This is part of our back yard!!
True to my nature, I'm focusing on the positive.
Funny, I'm noticing some neat things in regards to nature here in the desert.

These trees below are how most of the trees look.  I don't think they had their V8 today!  LOL  They grow like this due to the high winds we have here in the desert.

And my favorite part thus far... see him below in the green?

Yeah!! That's a coyote!!! And I took this from my driveway while I was trying to get the silly garage to open.

These guys are everywhere and I think it's pretty cool.
Wonder what else I'll find around here??

31 days of me...

31 Days of me....

The month of October is your lucky month!

  • Haven't you always wondered what goes on with me and my family?
  • Are you curious as to what on earth is going on in my head?
  • Wanna know more about me?
  • Perhaps you are dying to know how I make up all this parenting stuff...
If you answered "no" to any of the above questions then don't read my blog during the month of October.

31 Days of me talking about whatever I want. The good, the bad and the ugly.
(insert evil laugh)

Check back tomorrow 1 October 2014 for your first dose of insanity! ;-)

It's TIME, for Schroeder updates!

Hey Yall!
Team Schroeder has been uber busy living life!

We recently decided to start writing what we're thankful for each day.  I thought what better way to keep track and stay in touch than a blog.

Everyone's update will be posted as we go.

I am currently applying the principle of "Progress, not perfection" to our lives and so now we have this quick blog post. :-)

See ya soon!
